Doctrine Of God 5 Part 1

In this lesson we will study the Justice and Judgment of God.

God*s ways are always just and right. His character is so holy that He cannot sin, nor can He in the least degree approve of sin in others. His great love never causes Him to violate His holiness in this regard. If God approved of sin in another He would become party to that sin and thus make Himself a sinner.

When men think that God has not done right, it is because they do not fully understand His ways and time will prove them to be utterly wrong.

His holiness is not passive. Our holiness is passive. It tolerates sin in ways that God*s cannot. As the ruler of all things, He must act in relationship to the conduct of others. He must not only decide what is right and wrong, but He must decide who is right and wrong. Then He must decide what must be done with those who do wrong, and how those who do right shall be rewarded.

He must see that all of His decrees are executed. He is a God of love but His love can never set aside His justice. If God is to bestow mercy on one whom His justice had condemned, a righteous way to do so must be found, or else that love must yield to justice and judgment. He found that way through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Now we will look at several points regarding God*s justice and judgment. We must avoid any attitude of bitterness toward God because that attitude hinders our growth in the knowledge of Him.

First. There is no partiality or favoritism with God.

1 Peter 1:17: And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man*s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

Romans 2:11: For there is no respect of persons with God.

Deuteronomy 10:17: For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:

Ephesians 6:9: And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

Acts 10:34: Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

Sometimes His judgment is immediate and sometimes it is not. He knows when it should be immediate and He knows when it is best to be longsuffering. He knows exactly what we need and exactly when we need it. He is never unfair.

Romans 2:4: Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Second. God not only judges the outward acts of men but their thoughts and secrets as well.

Romans 2:16: In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

Luke 12:1-3: In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. 3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

Psalms 139:2: Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

Psalms 139:23-24: Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Third. The law of God for man has been proclaimed through conscience and the Bible and can never be altered.

Romans 2:14: For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

Matthew 5:18: For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Regarding the question: What about the heathens who have never seen a Bible? Every man is accountable to God for Himself. The heathens are accountable to God for themselves and you are accountable to God for yourself. Heathens are without excuse and those who have had access to the Bible are without excuse.

Romans 1:20: For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Matthew 12:36: But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Romans 14:12: So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
